[KLQRP] Re: The meeting that started it all...

Gary,
It would be great to re-read some of the entries in the old attendance
log. Or another suggestion would be to post some entries..."Ten years
ago this month...or five years ago this month...we found the following
entries..." You get the idea. Or maybe that could be a regular updated
feature on the webpage. We are very fortunate that only of few of our
members from way back are Silent Keys.

Your memory is correct Sir Dave... I have archived evidence of that as
well... and of the net that he, you and I started a few weeks prior...
and also Sir Bob's (AE4IC) cheerleading that inspired us all to get
together and talk about starting up a North Carolina QRP club. You were
strategically located in Durham, and offered up holding a meeting to
talk it through.
How is your recall on who were in attendance that night... I recall you,
Bob, Paul, and myself, but I think there were a couple of others....
perhaps even 3 or 4. I just can't seem to bring the pictures into clear
view.... I'm thinking perhaps Warren (AD4ZE), John (WB4OFT), and Dennis
(WR4I ) were there as well, but I'm very fuzzy on this. I need to do
more surfing to see what other gems I can dig up on us. :-)

Re: The meeting that started it all...
Actually I remember the more important "first", the time
Paul and I were talking about QRPers getting together.
It was Paul who expressed the wish that there was some
way to really get the local or regional QRPers together,
maybe through some kind of on-air regular meeting.
I listened to his free-wheeling imaginings, and was inspired.
My reply was something like "Well, let's just do it!"
(my usual enthusiasm), and from that initial conversation,
we started the net, which I believe came before the physical
meeting of people at my home (Paul please correct me if I'm
wrong on that).
This is really cool, as it was just us friends thinking out loud and
trying to see what was possible. And lots of fun followed!
I thought I'd be able to make it to the QRPigout this week, then
I got news a group of friends will be visiting a dear friend who is
in the hospital battling cancer, and I need to join them. But I do
hope to join you all in a QRPigout at least once this summer!
Best wishes to all, and keep having fun.
Dave
P.S. - I have planned to participate with our Durham club for Field Day,
but would like to do some other operating with the KnightLites this
summer. Maybe we can do some event at one of the lakes in the
Triangle area? Let's check the contests lists and do some planning.
