[KLQRP] KL Shirts etc

Sir Joe,

Have you considered patches? I think Gary has some good observations, but I
must ask, "What is the goal?" If visibility in a crowd, then yes either
gold or red is the best choice IMHO, but Lady Nancy does not like red, so I
dare not bring anything red into the house!!! (that is a 'personal' problem
<G>).

The reason I suggest patches is that I strongly recommend the dark blue with
white letters for the best looking and most readable - all others seem to
have less clarity to my eyes, especially combinations like the red lettering
on blue. With patches, there is no problem of the shirt color bleeding
through the emblem, and it can be applied to caps, shirts, coats, badges, in
fact anything.

Let it be known that I normally do not do Tee shirts with writing on them,
and I don't wear a cap, so I may not be in 'the market' for these items if
the present plan is implemented. I might be seen with a lettered Tee shirt
at a special event, but that occasion will be rare - I just don't do that,
but a nice looking patch or badge - yes, I would be in the market for that.

I will be interested to find what the discussion at the PigOut tomorrow
night will yield - I plan to be there if 'the crik don't rise'.

Don W3FPR

  Gary and the Gang ...
There's a lot of thoughts here. My response is:
  1. Not sure how seriously to consider anything written before 9:00am, but
I'm pretty sure 6:00am is really risky.
  2. Liz and I didn't come up with the colors for the banner. That was the
color of the shield/coat-of-arms on the website. We tried to come as close
to it as we could from materials the signmaker had in stock.
  3. I added a couple of color combinations to the website, trying to hit
your suggestions. See what you think.
  4. I don't know about the turnaround time, but I suspect its a day or so.
It depends on what else the man has going at the time.

    Sir Joe;

Since you insist on delegating the color decision to the masses,
I'll offer some suggestions to augment your confusion. :-) I looked at the
choices, and was able to quickly home in on the Red shirt for several
reasons. One primary reason is that it exudes a similar "shock factor" that
gold did for us at Atlanticon. The other colors are more conservative, and
don't seem to have the same subconscious draw that pulls your attention
toward them. A second reason, is this color also aligns with the original
colors you and Liz selected for our Banner which have since become our
defacto color standard. I also like the Navy lettering for a similar reason.
It's in bold contrast (perhaps a bit too bold... more on this later) with
the red, which draws you in and moves you to actually read it. The
combination is appealing and would seem to jump out at you in a crowd.

Now as for what I might change... I think a blue shade between
that which you used for the feather in his helmet and that of the lettering
would make a better choice for his lance and shield. This would make them
stand out against the background much better, and also give them a
"metallic" feel. Perhaps the feather should be the same as, or closer to the
shade of the lettering to provide firmer coupling between the logo and
lettering. The light blue for this just seems to stand off by itself, and
looks out of place here. Perhaps something a bit lighter than Navy would
work better for the lettering also. The Navy works well as a bold contrast,
but it also pulls you away from the logo. Perhaps black would link them
better or a very dark and bright sky blue to better contrast the black used
in the Knight. Making the shield, lance, and helmet feather the same blue
would couple the lettering to the logo also, as the red seems to do with the
other models. A contrasting combination of blues grays and black might help
make the yellow "light" up brighter also. This same color combination would
contrast well against the Tan hats which would then make an attractive
pairing. Their compliment (i.e. Red hats and Tan shirts could be dubbed the
"summer" version, and would seem to be equally attractive and still stand
out in a crowd.

Now that's a lot of babble, so to summarize, I would like to see
the feather, shield, lance and lettering all in the same dark "bright" sky
blue. Everything else just as you have shown. I would also like to see this
same color combination against both the red and tan backdrops. The blue
should back away from Navy just enough to be easily recognized as blue and
still enough to give a clear contrast against the black and gray used on the
knight.

*BLACK* *GRAY* *BLUE* Like this for example....
if the color comes through... :-)

As for the other "models", I think red or orange for the feather
is an attractive combination, but the shield and lance should be the same
color... perhaps all being red would help link the logo and lettering. You
can get a sense of this "coupling" between the logo and lettering in the
four options you've offered by comparing those with the red lettering
against those with the blue or white lettering. Red and orange are close
while still contrasting though, and this seems to work well in this regard,
but the shield and lance being different colors seems awkward to me.

I find the last option... with the white lettering... bright,
colorful, and appealing for it's high contrast. This would stand out if the
logo and lettering were very large... such that they significantly dominate
the dark blue backdrop. That might make the embroidery considerably more
expensive though. I also think the dark blue would tend to blend in rather
than stand out in a crowd, so while it looks very attractive, I don't think
it will deliver on getting attention drawn toward us as well as the red.
This color combination would somewhat limit you to conservative dark colors
for both the shirt and the hat also.

BTW... What's the approximate turn-around time to get one each
(shirt and hat) of these made?

    Gang,
It's only a couple of days until we converge upon the poor souls at
the Golden Corral at RTP for the monthly gathering of the Knights of the
LiteTable. Many of you saw the KL shirts that Liz and I had on at the last
PigOutPickin. These weren't good examples because of (my) poor choice of
colors. Also the logo should have been larger. With that experience, we
should discuss if we want to do a group order for improved shirts (or hats)
of a suitable color. Take a look at this website:
       http://home.bellsouth.net/p/pwp-joenliz
and give me your ideas on what might look best -- or come to the pigout
prepared to discuss.
       C U There
