I will also try to be there on Thursday evening. I may have to go to Canada
but if not I will be there.

Thanks Dick.
I figured you would like those sites. From my notes I show that we will be
able to go
N/S and E/W on those sites easily. Depending on how many of the sites we
end up
Occupying we will easily cover that problem.
Now if we can get the antennas up high enough we can stretch some wire.
Derek was
Supposed to get some new silicone for his sling shot and if he gets enough I
will redo
My slingshot (launcher) too.
I am going to go down on either Thursday night or Friday morning. I have
already taken
Off for Thursday and Friday. We can easily get down there on Thursday night
and lay
Claim to the sites. Only one of us has to do that really; but, if we can
get more down
That will be okay too.
I will wait to hear from the group on that one.

JP and Gang
I went out to Jordan as I promised I would this evening. I really liked Camp
B11 and B12 at Cross Winds. B11 has a 174 feet open span and B12 has a 124
foot span. Not certain of the directions. Trees easily up 80 feet. Assuming
the rangers don't have a problem with wires crossing the roads. I also liked
63 and 68 and others on the road running behind B11 and B12. Yes we could
occupy a number of sites around that ridge and still be within the 300 meter
radius.
At the gate they told me that the sites will be busy and that we need to get
there Thursday evening or early Friday. There were a number of campers
around that area this evening. We can set up tents on Thursday evening.
Good job JP and I reckon we will do well at those locations.
How many are planning to attend?

Dick:
Before I make a commitment, I would like to ask you your opinion.
I went to three parks, and could only get into two of them. Vista Point
On the South West portion of the lake, and it is not for camping for
Tents. You can use a group site, and then tent camp. No electric.
I went to Crosswinds and checked two parks, B and C and B was nicer
For our purposes. They have single and double sites. We would have
To pay twice for the double sites, and single for the single site
http://ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visit/jord/crosswinds.pdfs.
The B section had nicer sites for our puposes in two ways, it has
Electric at all sites and it also has a higher elevation. C did have a few
Single sites, but they were mostly in areas where the trees were not too
Well oriented.
The B section has several sites where we could orient our long wires NS
And there were a couple places where we could set up close to each other
And not be on top of one another too. A short walk (20 to 30 feet)
separated
The sites on different roads. I picked those as a good possibility.
They were 63 - 68 or 68 - 11 or 11 - 12. They are all high but none is
near
The water.
The rangers said we would pretty much have our choice on the weekend we
Are going down there. Crosswinds is accessibile off SR 1008 Farrington
Road,
And it is just a short distance off US64. The drive into the park was nice
and
There are several nice places to set up all around that park.
The spot does not have showers at the nearest restroom; but, we can go a
short ways
Down to the other one and they have showers. I checked both of them and
they are
Clean and nice like all the others.
Needless to say, I could not get into Parker's Creek, It was full and the
rangers were not
Allowing anyone into the parks there. I tried but they would not let me in
there.
Now, if you find that Parkers Creek is better than Crosswinds, we can go
there. I am open
To suggestions. I spent a couple hours riding around and checking out those
two parks
Alone.
I was looking at the locations for operating and none of them were near the
lake or water. They
Were however up on a ridge and good for operating. The trees were very high
at this site, and
I would imagine 70 feet or higher at some of the sites. We could put up
some high antennas
There for the low bands.
I plan to take my beam for 15/10 meters that would easily set up on a
railing or whatever at one
Or two of the sites I saw. I also plan on a doublet (130 foot) and there
were several spots to
Orient that N/S there.
GPS was 35.44 and 79.50 at the gate to the campground. I did not get all
the others. I wrote them
Down and left the paper on one of the tables when I left. Sorry about that.
There is a lot of shade at all of these sites at 3 to 5 pm when I was there.
We would have a general store, at Wilsonville, nearby if we needed anything
in an emergency. That is
Not far from the campsites.
There is no alcoholic beverages, and no guns allowed. They have good hours
for getting into the
Parks now. Better than Falls Lake. 8 am to 9 pm. The rates are fair, and
if we get the Seniors rate
It is a little less.
For more info or any questions go to
www.ncsparks.net/jord.html
and they had all the info posted there. I did pick up some brochures and
have those and some maps.
Sites with electricity for the laptops, instead of the generators would be
$20 versus $15 without electricity.
That is for each night and with two on a site it would be half of that.
Seniors, 62+ is $14 and $10 respectively.
They will only take reservations for 7 days or more so we will have to go
and get our sites and pay for them
When they come around.
If we go down on the lower elevations near the lake or some of the other
sites, they are near water and
We could set up my 40 meter vertical for 40 meters and have that as an extra
too.
I am also taking a new NVIS I am making for 40 through 10 meters to try out
for this years FD. I don't know
How well it will work, but I am willing to give it a shot and see how it
does. They also have an 80 and 40 version
http://www.athensarc.org/nvis.htm
I am still studying that one and will have to make a decision on that too.
OK, let me know what you think.
I sent this to the group so everyone knows what is going on too.
