[KLQRP] Knightlites meeting this Thursday!

Greetings Sir Lyn;
Indeed there's ample opportunity for all here. The plan is to
gather a mish mash of ideas, prototype them up, select the most appealing
of the lot... based solely on unanimous opinion, and perceived functional
need, and integrate those that seem to add to the collective appeal and
delight over what emerges. Success isn't a consideration... emphasis is
teamwork and fun. If... in the end... we actually produce something that
works... well... cool then. :-)
We don't have anybody coming up with a front-end pre-selector, RF
pre-amp, amplifier/attenuator, or IF amp just yet. to name some of the
basic functions. We haven't even decided whether this is going to be
single, dual, or multi-band yet, nor whether or not any IF is/will be
needed or desired.
We're trying to lean toward something that diverges a bit from
where most folks are headed... but don't ask me what that means yet. An
example of this might be to perhaps search for a wide-band op-amp that can
be used at HF (or IF)... perhaps as a fixed or tunable RF BPF. There are
some really low cost RFIC's now also... 50 ohms in, 50 ohms out, power
and ground... that take KISS to heart. I don't know why hams don't make
regular use of these. :-) A super simple VOX Tx/Rx switch might be a
sought after feature. Architecting a packaging scheme is wide open also.
Maybe some BITE (built in test equipment) ideas would become appealing
features.
We starting with a PIC counter/display with VFO Huff-n-Puff
stabilizer, but perhaps there's room to integrate other control functions
as well... a keyer perhaps. I'm not sure how much we can pack into a PIC
just yet.
I recommend that you make the pilgrimage to QRPigOut Thursday
night, and see how this is unfolding. It should be intense and fun chaos
for all.

Hi Lyn,
I am copying N3GO on this. If there is any block left he will know.
Thanks
for your offer of help!
Chris
