KD4PBJ and I spent a few hours this afternoon operating the 6M Contest.
This was my first time on SSB/CW VHF, and it was quite interesting.
Chris and
I were running my Argonaut II and Ten-Tec 6M transverter at 5W output to a
6M dipole up 40 ft, fed with ladderline and matched with a stock ZM2 Z
match tuner.

We worked about 10 stations each on SSB, most within our own grid
square, and
one station on CW. It was pretty easy to work all stns within 50-60
miles, including
a fellow QRP'er about 35 miles away.

I'm sure our little pistol station will be more effective when we get
our yagi up on the
tower, but for now, life is good!

The VHF'ers reminded me of the QRP fraternity. Most were friendly and
offered helpful
comments. We hope the band may open sometime during the contest so we
can get a taste of
the magic band.

Why don't you join us up on 6M this weekend?
